2007 WI Wife-Carrying Championships Fundraiser on Sep 22, 2007
With your "wife" on your back, battle your way through sand, water, and log hurdles at the 2007 Wisconsin Wife-Carrying Championships in downtown Minocqua on Saturday, September 22nd. Competition begins at 11:00 am in Torpy Park and promises to be a fun event for participant and spectator alike.
"Wife" is somewhat of a loose term, meaning the one being carried could be someone else's wife, girl friend, mother-in-law, etc. The rules do require, however, that she must be at least 21 years old and weigh at least 107 pounds.
Co-hosted by Minocqua Winter Park, Lakeland Kiwanis Club, and MAVW Chamber of Commerce, the unique event is a fundraiser to benefit the Lakeland Ski Touring Foundation and ongoing community ski programming.
Some of the prizes include the "wife's" weight in ale and cash sponsored by Redhook Ale and Oneida Sales & Service, Inc. and the "wife's" weight in brats sponsored by Johnsonville Brats.
A Brat Fry featuring Johnsonville Brats will be held by the Lakeland Kiwanis Club at the concession.
