In Madison:
Cherokee Marsh Conservation Park - South Unit -  - Nice easy trails for a ski tour on the north side of Madison. Groomed trails with a few mildly tricky spots in the woods, especially if you're a novice. Some pretty overlooks of the marsh. more »

Elver Park -- Located on the near west side of Madison - home to Madnorski Tuesday Night Races . 6.2 miles of easy, intermediate, and advanced trails. groomed for both skating and classic skiing with a lighted loop .  This area is usually groomed by the city and conditions are typically very good - and these trails get heavy use.  Warming Shelter. trail fee required. Monona Golf Course -- Technically located in Madison which surrounds Monona. The outer loop of the golf course provides gentle beginner conditions - the perfect place to practice skating technique without the added challenge of hills. 2.3 miles of groomed easy trails. Odana Golf Course -- 3.5 miles of groomed easy trails. Groomed for skating and classical. Shelter, rental, restrooms, parking. 4635 Odana Rd. Call the Odana Club House at 266-4724 to check on the availability of ski rentals.

Olin-Turville Park -- 3.1 miles of groomed easy and intermediate trails. Some fun roller coaster hills  and narrow trails on the outer loop, with easier loops also available. Sheltered from wind and lots of ambient city light for night skiing.  Restrooms, parking. 115 E. Lakeside St.

Owen Conservation Park --
1.5 miles of groomed intermediate trails. Parking. 6021 Old Sauk Rd.

The UW Arboretum -- A scenic venue in the heart of Madison.  Many trails wind through the prairie and woods - most have a double skied-in track for an easy conversational ski. The perfect place for a ski-date. Please stay on trails marked for skiers.  more »

Near Madison:
Blackhawk Ridge - Mazomanie -- The Blackhawk Ridge Unit of the Wisconsin State Riverway is located west of Madison near the town of Mazomanie. Blackhawk Ridge has about 10 miles of trails. The trails are not groomed and are wide enough for two classic skiers side by side. The terrain is mostly gentle rolling hills with one significant climb.  more »

Blue Mound State Park -- When conditions permit a classic track is groomed across the majority of the trails. There are options for beginners and experienced skiers. Cam-Rock -- 5 miles of groomed easy, intermediate, and advanced trails. Shelter, restrooms, parking. Just south of Cambridge (southeast of Madison) on County Hwy B.

Governor Dodge State Park -- Located on Hwy 23, 3 miles north of Dodgeville. From Madison, take US 18/151 to Dodgeville. Exit onto Hwy 18, then take Hwy 23 north. Follow the signs to the park entrance. There are four trails at this park, each of increasing difficulty. The trails are groomed for classical Nordic style skiing only, but after a snowfall, one can usually count on making new tracks. Gold Mine Trail, is 2.5 miles (4 Km) long. Mill Creek Trail is rated intermediate, and is 3.3 miles (5.4 Km) long. Meadow Valley Trail is rated More Difficult, and is 6.7 miles (10.7 Km) long. Lost Canyon Trail is rated Most Difficult, and is 8.1 miles (13 Km) long.  more »

Governor Nelson State Park - 4.5 miles of groomed easy and intermediate trails. Restrooms, parking. Located on the North shore of Lake Mendota this park has scenic trails with a mix of hills and open prairie.  The Morningside Trail is multi-use for skiing, snowshoes and hiking - Redtail Hawk and Oak Savannah trail is groomed for skate and classical - Woodland trail is classical only. The area is groomed, although the track isn't quite wide enough to easily accommodate both a skate and classic lane and when skating conditions are good - the track can get a little messy. Indian Lake -- 9 miles of intermediate and advanced trails groomed for classic skiing. Shelter, restrooms, parking. Northwest of Madison on Hwy 19 -- 3 miles west of Hwy 12.

Lake Farm Park -- 8 miles of groomed easy trails. Restrooms, Parking. Southeast of Madison on Libby road near lake Waubesa.

Lake Kegonsa State Park -- 8 miles of groomed easy and intermediate trails. Groomed for skating and classical. Restrooms and Parking. Take I-90 southeast of Madison to Stoughton exit then take Hwy N south to Koshkonong Rd. more »

Lodi Golf Club
-- Three loops totaling 6.2k: 1.6k easy loop, 2.5k moderate with one long hill and 3.5k Northern Lights trail, moderate with a 1K 100 ft. climb. Groomed with a Snowmaster pull-behind skate groomer and a Tracor and occasionally a compactor. They try to groom 3-4 days a week and before all ski team practices. Lodi Ski Club website »

Stewart Park,  Mt. Horeb -- This could be a World Cup course if the trails were meticulously groomed and the trails were on-camber. Instead this challenging venue offers up approximately 8k of thrilling hills in skied-in tracks. A guaranteed adventure ski locale.  Hikers use these trails too - sometimes the trail conditions can vary as a result.  Trail fee required. Restrooms, parking. Just north of Main St. Mt Horeb (west of Madison) on County Hwy JG.

Token Creek -- 4 miles of groomed easy trails. Shelter, restrooms, parking. North of Madison on Hwy 51 near Hwy 19.

East of Madison:

Lapham Peak - Delafield -- The Lapham Peak Unit of the Kettle Moraine State Forest is located 42 miles east of Madison near the town of Dousman. Lapham Peak has about 10 miles of groomed trails. The trails are wide and groomed for both skate skiing and classical.  more »

Black River State Forest (Millston, WI) -- 24 miles of trails for both classic and freestyle skiing (Trail Map brochure). Black River State Forest website »

Devils Lake SP - Baraboo -- Devils Lake State Park is located north of Madison near Baraboo, Wisconsin in the beautiful Baraboo hills region. There are about 17 miles of trails. Four and half miles of the trails are designated for skate skiing while the remaining trails are tracked for classical skiing only. As of 2012, the park periodically grooms the Steinke Basin loop for classical skiing and the Johnson Moraine for skate skiing. Trail conditions should always be confirmed with the park staff. more »

Justin Trails -- 10 miles of groomed and tracked trails. Fee is $5/day to ski. Rentals available for $10/day. Lodging also available. Justin Trails website »

Mecan River Outfitters (Princeton, WI) -- Ten miles of groomed and tracked trails and skating lanes await you. Ski through the stillness of red pines, hardwoods, and marshlands. The terrain varies from flat to gently rolling for the novice, to some real "screamer" hills for advanced skiers. All trails are wide and expertly groomed. Open seven days a week. Ski rentals are available daily ($10), and there is a trail fee ($6). Take a break or finish up your day with a stop at the lodge. Relax in front of the fireplace and enjoy the cozy atmosphere.
