Stewart Park, Mt. Horeb -- This could be a World Cup course if the trails were meticulously groomed and the trails were on-camber. Instead this challenging venue offers up approximately 8k of thrilling hills in skied-in tracks. A guaranteed adventure ski locale. Hikers use these trails too - sometimes the trail conditions can vary as a result. Trail fee required.

Lake Farm Park
Monona Golf Course -- Located in Monona just east of Madison. The outer loop of the golf course provides gentle beginner conditions - the perfect place to practice skating technique without the added challenge of hills.
Elver Park -- Located on the near west side of Madison - home to Madnorski Tuesday Night Races . The trails are groomed for both skating and classic skiing with a lighted loop . This area is usually groomed by the city and conditions are typically very good - and these trails get heavy use. Warming Shelter. trail fee required.

Cherokee Marsh - Nice easy trails for a ski tour on skied-in tracks on the north side of Madison
Governor Nelson State Park - Located on the North shore of Lake Mendota this park has scenic trails with a mix of hills and open prairie. The Morningside Trail is multi-use for skiing, snowshoes and hiking - Redtail Hawk and Oak Savannah trail is groomed for skate and classical - Woodland trail is classical only. The area is groomed, although the track isn't quite wide enough to easily accommodate both a skate and classic lane and when skating conditions are good - the track can get a little messy. A State Trail Pass is not required. It's always a beautiful place to ski.

When conditions permit Karl Heil grooms a classic track to perfection across the majority of the trails. There are options for beginners and experienced skiers. The campground area is generally groomed for skating too. Check first to find how this venue is groomed.

9-Mile - Wausau
Mecan River Outfitters (Princeton, WI) - Ten miles of groomed and tracked trails and skating lanes await you. Ski through the stillness of red pines, hardwoods, and marshlands. The terrain varies from flat to gently rolling for the novice, to some real "screamer" hills for advanced skiers. All trails are wide and expertly groomed. Open seven days a week. Ski rentals are available daily ($10), and there is a trail fee ($6). Take a break or finish up your day with a stop at the lodge. Relax in front of the fireplace and enjoy the cozy atmosphere. Hot refreshments and tastebud-satisfying food are available. They also have rustic cabins available.
