Blue Mound SP

Due to the rain and warm weather, grooming has been suspended. Trails have deteriorated significantly leaving large open areas and ice sheets. If weather continues, trails will likely be open for hiking by the weekend.

As of 12:30 snow coverage was still good along most sections, except for the south-facing slopes. No grooming evident since Saturday. Some bits of grass starting to show through in the more exposed places, as temp rose above freezing in sunny areas. West was very hard-packed, and East somewhat less so. Glide was beginning to …

If you stay off the track by a foot then the untouched half inch of powder gets you a good ski. Worth a visit!

Mirror Lake SP – Baraboo

After watching the Vimeo/CXC live feed of the last 15 K of today's Birkie, we headed out to see why friends were recommending we give Mirror Lake a try… We skied the Hastings, Ferndell, Turtleville, and Pioneer loops. Appears each had been rolled just once since this week's snowfall. Track was set and remained mostly …

Just a few skiers out there but, wow, the light fluff of snow received Friday improved conditions markedly. Skating hither/thither off-trail was delightful over the vast sunlit expanses of white wonder.

Groomer was finishing up around noon after working magic on the trails. Punishing afternoon sun will likely burn through thin spots below sledding hill and back side of …

Mirror Lake SP – Baraboo

Nice snow, but it is of the type that consolidates slowly. Park staff were out running two groomers Thursday and Friday. Conditions were still on the soft side Friday afternoon. Trails were almost complete tracked when I left Friday afternoon. With snow like this, best practice is to groom flat and give the snow time …

Mirror Lake SP – Baraboo

A lovely ski. They were still busy grooming. Setting track while we were there yesterday. Very nice snow. Soft, but I imagine it set up overnight.

Elver Park

West trails were rolled on Friday. Some thin spots (including right at the very start near the parking lot and at the bottom of the hill into the soccer fields) but otherwise quite good for skating. Hills are fast and fun. No classic tracks at all.

CXC Trails

Only artificial snow loop was open. Too bad, as lower field and all of Pleasant View looks very ski-able if someone is in town to scratch it up. It's totally ungroomed, crusty, non-edgeable now.
