Blue Mound SP

Hard to believe how much snow and how good the skiiing was at Blue Mound. A track still there all the way around the entire system, excellent kick/glide with waxless as of noon Sunday. 6 inch base and at least a foot of the snow in the woods. Awesome

The trails at Elver yesterday around 1 pm were still in fair shape; several short sections are getting thin, but were still passable; a bit tricky, with faster, icy sections in the shade next to soft (and very slow) corn

8AM skated the Oak Savannah trail. There were deep hard ruts from someone skating during the soft conditions yesterday and someone hiked the trail leaving deep boot prints. On the uphill nearest Hwy M there is a bare spot that requires either removing skis or bushwhacking around. Bushwhacking worked fine this morning.

Got there mid-morning as things were softening up. Skate lane pretty smooth, tracks fairly deep. Pretty good spring conditions, but you've got to catch it right-- soft enough to edge, firm enough to not rut it up.

Still significant stretches of snow this morning. The trail that climbs the hill along the tree line on the south side (just north of the LaFollette playing fields) still has plenty of cover, though it's really icy. That might soften up and become good.

Odana Golf Course

Date Condition Style By

Nearly all of the remaining snow on the base has been melted leaving just a patchy sheet of ice. Lots of flooding and small streams as well. Found 2x50m sections that still had snow but it looks like Odana is done for now.
Mar 09, 2010 Fair Skate Chris
Skate lane still pretty good this morning. Icy areas softened and snowy areas still pretty firm. Crust skiing is soft. There is still good coverage on most all of the trails. Get out before the rain ruins it.
Mar 08, 2010 Fair Skate Chris
Skate lane still has good coverage on 95%. There are multiple icy patches though. Crust skiing still good early this morning.

Thank you for the excellent season of grooming, Tim! It is appreciated very much!

  WE are closed. Thank-you.
Mar 09, 2010 Good Classic carolyn senty
Skate lane smoothed and tracks still intact and both are 98% snow covered (a bit soft, but not mushy), less than 1% softening ice and less than 1% bare. A foggy wonderland this morning. Waxless classic skis worked well! Still not ready to give up....
Mar 08, 2010 Good Skate TIM
Groomed skate lane-A.M. Tracks are 50%
Mar 08, 2010 Excellent Skate Scott
The main loop was perfect right after Tim groomed and the temperatures were still below freezing. No need for rock skis, there was complete coverage. These were the fastest conditions of the season. Thanks again fo rthe supberb grooming and extension of the ski season at least one more day!
Mar 06, 2010 Good Skate C & H
Crust and groomed skate lane both still really good this morning. Classic track is firm and striders were moving well. Crust might be too soft by Sunday, but trail should be skiable.

I was impressed how good the trails were at Lapham. The groomer gets out early and scrathes up the frozen ice each morning and that makes for some very nice skiing. The snow is gradually getting thinner though, so it might not last through the week of warm temps.
Mar 06, 2010 Excellent Skate Jim B.
Amazingly good here yet early on SA; getting soft by 10:30. Had obviously be re-groomed again early today. If they don't get much rain tonight, SU early should probably still be good. The classic tracks were even good looking for probably 85% of the trail system. However, depending upon how many skiers continued on once it warmed up today, they may have degraded considerably. Skating was just awesome. Really early morning skiing "might" good for a few more days here. These DNR groomers really have gone the extra mile/k for skiers.

Great skiing again. Softening by noon but plenty of snow. The hidden but oh-so-scenic "'magic valley" section of the new Ishnala trail might hold snow until April.

Snow: "You cursed brat! Look what you've done! I'm melting! melting! Oh, what a world! What a world! Who would have thought a good little sun like you could destroy my beautiful wickedness? Oooooh, look out! I'm going! Oooooh! Ooooooh!"

LAKE MONONA - Skied out of BB Clarke Beach at 6:30 am this morning. Great sunrise crust skating across the lake to Monona. The Fishermen report that the ice thickness is 20-24 inches. Probably not many days left, so try to get out and enjoy if you can :-)
