Groomed and tracked Feb. 15th and in fair to good condition. The snow base is very thin with about 1" under the track causing some debris to show occasionally. A few ice sheets have formed as well on Minix and Willow Spring trails. Campground was groomed for skate skiing.
Groomers will be out early, skiing open around 9:30 AM.
The snowmaking loop and trail on the golf course were packed with a snowcat around midnight. Trails should be flat and firm in the morning and enjoyable to ski on. Snowmaking loop (Siberian Hwy) was excellent. New snow had firmed up since yesterday. 1.6K per lap. Looks like other trails have been rolled, but not groomed. More snow coming down as I ended at 4:45 pm. Thank you Blackhawk groomers.
As of Friday, the park service has not worked on any trails. Regardless people are making their own classic tracks and making do. Did the Cliffwood Coulee Trail, which is one of the newer trails. Lots of rocks first 150ft, just walk on up to crest of Aurthers. Zimmer and Toms are paper thin but smooth and flat without trail hazards. Experienced skiers with a gentle touch could make a ski out of it. Slight route addition on Tom's was a nice touch. Didn’t ski Buckys
Groomed mostly for skating. Man-made snow loops are good, other trails and golf course are just fair.
The CXC area where snow has been made. This season was excellent! Best skiing yet this season. The golf course was poor to fair. Cover was very thin with a lot of grass showing through many areas and other areas had drifted snow that was very soft and several inches deep.
Blue Mounds received ~4" of light and fluffy snow yesterday. It looks like all of the trails were rolled sometime this evening, including the small skate loop at the top of the mound. I stayed off to give them some time to set up, and I instead did some larger loops outside of the groomed …
