Blue Mound SP

Although there has been some thinning in spots, conditions were significantly better today than yesterday once the snow softened a bit. The only full loop that is feasible without taking your skis off is the green loop, and the worst part of that is right at the trailhead. I would still recommend taking the cutoff to the left as opposed to going up the Spring House Trail. One of the downhills from there to the trailhead is half bare ground, and the other is skiable only via a narrow ice bridge towards the bottom. I used rock skis, but if you're feeling brave you could get away with B skis. Yellow loop coverage is good until you get to the top of the hill and out of the forest, then there's a large bare area that you'll have to walk. Red loop has a ton of bare areas, both in the campground and a couple of openings in the forest. If you get tired of doing the green loop and you don't want to take off your skis, you could tack on some out-and-backs, although I would only recommend this if it's not crowded.
As an aside – I have never seen so many hikers and dog walkers on the ski trails at BMSP during a winter season. I'm not sure if it's the mild weather or what, but it has been truly terrible basically the entire time there's been snow on the ground (except for the week when it was below 0). I see them entering at the trailhead as well, so there's no excuse with regards to signage.
