CXC Outdoor Rec Center

Understanding Snowmaking: Making snow is a complex operation, requiring:
– Temperature: Effective snow formation needs temperatures below 25°F, preferably below 20°F.
– Duration: A minimum of 10-12 hours of consistent cold is essential.
– Timing: We initiate operations when there's a reliable cold period of at least 2-3 days for efficiency.
– Wind Conditions: Proper wind direction and strength are crucial for distributing snow on specific trail sections.

Challenges at CXC Outdoor Center: Our current snowmaking system faces limitations, such as a lack of permanent snowmaking infrastructure (buried pipes, power stations). It limits how far we can go from the water and energy source with snow guns. We manage these challenges, but for long-term sustainability, improvements are needed.

Your Support is Key: We started this season with 1.3km of trail, but we lost most of it due to warm weather and rain. Warm weather also dramatically affected trail pass sales over the holidays. In order to repair and return to 1.3km and add more (300-400 meters), we need to raise additional funds to cover the cost of snowmaking and grooming.

Exciting Matching Donation: Mark and Molly Griffin have generously pledged a $10,000 1:1 matching donation to support our snowmaking this season. Your donations will have twice the impact!
