After watching the Vimeo/CXC live feed of the last 15 K of today's Birkie, we headed out to see why friends were recommending we give Mirror Lake a try… We skied the Hastings, Ferndell, Turtleville, and Pioneer loops. Appears each had been rolled just once since this week's snowfall. Track was set and remained mostly intact on most of Ferndell and Pioneer. Glazed in places, but still good grip with crown base. The other loops had mainly skied-in, shallow and soft CL tracks. Still a little soft for skating from Friday night's dusting, but we heard no complaints. So it's not the superb grooming we Madisonians have been spoiled by, but snow coverage was great. Sunny areas were getting soft but not slushy mid-day, and starting to crust over as the sun lowered after 4:00. Lots of people out enjoying this last gasp (?) of winter in the south. Not sure what would be the result if trails were re-groomed this evening. Best to call the park and check the Sunday morning report.
