Elver Park

On an absolute scale, conditions are fair. Better for skate than classic, since the tracks are pretty washed out. But if we are grading on a curve, this merits an EXCELLENT because this is the best skiing on natural snow to be had anywhere around south central WI. Dick S. and the grooming crew have done an amazing job of consolidating the base in the woods on the West Trails and preserving the snow despite some lousy weather conditions. 95% snow + 4% ice sheets = 99% coverage on the trails. You have to walk 30 yards from the parking lot across some grass to get to the trail in the woods, but then it is possible to navigate everything without having to remove skis or trudge across grass. Note: There are a few bare spots starting to open up on the lower third of the black and blue trail steep downhills on the west loop. Be careful the first time on those sections and go slow to scout these spots out, since they might melt out more yet today. Not sure if this will survive tomorrow's warm up and rain, but if you get there yet today, there is still some good skiing to be had. Thanks to the grooming crew !
